UIR, the last stretch...
These are the final few days before this CDS is over...
Day 9
For today's agenda we were told to write about our dream holiday and include images of the place we wanted to go. I had a problem because, to be honest i have no idea where my dream holiday would be. I had always wanted to go back to the US or australia to visit my siblings who are there, but i want to be somewhere i have never been before. That is why i decided to pick the continent of Europe as i have never really explored that continent.
In addition to that exercise, we also told to compare the ever-rivaling facebook and frienster. We were to show their strength, their weaknesses and see if facebook or friendster would ever replace the face to face communication.
Day 10
Youtube, one of the revlution in this era. So our assignment for the day was to first break out into groups then discuss about how youtube has affected us as a soiecty and how it has affected our whole way of life. I find this assignment interesting because for the first time i actually heard what people really thought of youtube. Plus when asked to think up of improvements for the youtube site, its amazing to know what kind of ideas my peers can come up with.
Day 11
E-learning again...this time the groups would have to do an online wiki based on their own and respective topics. It was fun to see what my other groupmates have done and see what they have find out and think of their own topic. For me, it was hell because my topic was so vague. So i had to use extra resources so that i could do justice to my topic. Doing the wiki itself is ok, trying to snyc timing with my teammate was a brain twister. It was a good thing i saved what i typed into a notepad 1st because when i finally press save on the wiki, my teammates article was on but mine was gone...phew...lucky I smart...:P
Day 12
After e-learning, we had to present what we did in the wiki which i find surprising to hear when i heard my group was the only group with all the member actually completing their wiki
Later on, we had another dicussion forum but this time the topic is on ethical issues like, copryright infringement and even privacy status.
The question was, whether it is ethical to assume a false identity online, and the other is the how and what ethical considerations you would apply...
Reading the opinions of my peers is interesting though I find some a little too harsh...

Friendster Vs Facebook
Weakness...
Friendster: Limited functions. For example, in Friendster you create a testimonial for a friend then maybe search for new friends. That is maybe the extent of the site.
Facebook: Too many applications. In Facebook the user may choose to add external applicatino to their profile and even invite friends to add that application to their profile. However, there litrally thousands of applications to choose from and getting invitation from so many friends is not really helping.
Strength...
Friendster: Making new friends is as easy as ABC...
Facebook: Can be used for business as well. Facebook has the market section where people can sell their old items and even find a job on Facebook.
These two sites can never replace face to face communication. There is no way you can replace the tone of voice or even the sarcastics remarks. The look in their eys when you make them smile or hear the sound of laughther. These are the little things that actually make human contact irreplaceable, priceless.

My Dream Holiday...
Well, I remember telling myself when I was younger, that when I grow up I would travel the world, but now, having to be lucky enough to travel to a few countries, I realize that it is not where you are or where you are going, what is actually more important is who you are with and who you are going with. So if finance is not a problem and if I had all the money in the world than my dream holiday would be a year long sabbatical in Europe. However, I will not be alone, well, not all the time as I would bring a different companion, to each different country I go to.
My first stop would be France, and in France, my companion would be a close friend of mine(whose dream is to go France), and my elder brother. Since my elder brother can speak French, it would be slightly easier travelling around. I can imagine us backpacking throughout Paris to Marseille, from city to city to the wine country where we would enjoy the peace and the food. Furthermore, with so much sites, so many people to see, it is a good thing that photography is a hobby I share with my brother. We would probably go trigger-happy, snapping anything we could in sight.
The Eiffel Tower, one of the sites we would visit in France...
Notre Dame Cathedral, what an architectural inspiration...
My next stop would be Italy, this time, my companion would be my other brother. My older brother always wanted to go to Italy because he is a huge fan of their national soccer team. Italy famous for their fashion, architectural buildings, arts and monuments, but what I really admire is their style of cooking. I mean, they use the simplest of ingredients to whip up gourmet dishes with a rustic yet elegant feel. With places like Milan, Venice and Florence, the beauty of sites in endless. Maybe we could even watch a real soccer match at the San Siro stadium where we can shout our lungs out supporting the stars of AC Milan, but making sure we do not offend any supporters if not we would probably get the guts kicked out of us. With so much to see in Italy, I would spend about three months there and I still don't think I would be satisfied but the show must go on.

Michelangelo's Statue of David, the epiphany of sculptures in history...
To wrap things up, I would also explore, Switzerland to get to see the wonders of watch-making. In addition, I also would go to Belgium to see their expertise in chcolate making. Germany for the cars, and auto-design. I would my, last stop would be England. Roaming through London to Manchester, enjoying the sights and maybe even see some soccer hooligans in action. :)

UIR So far...
OK, I know we are suppose to update our blog like every single day to reflect on what we have done, and since I missed like two days of lesson in a row, I've got a lot of catching up to do. So instead of trying to remember what I have done and post individual entry, I decided to post a so called "summary" entry, basically on what I've learnt so far(or at least remember what I learn).
So here goes...
Day 1, Well it was just intro and getting into groups. Other than that I just laze around. :P
Day 2 and 3, I was M.I.A from class so I did what I had to do at home.
Day 4, to be honest don't really remember what I did in day 4 but I know there was work to do. Oh ya, on day 4 and 5. We actually did a comparison on the different type of ways to search for information. We used search engines, metasearch engines and subject directory to research for info on our individual topics. Then, we use the results and compare to determine which of the 3 is the most effective way to search for relevant information.
Day 6, is just a check up day, where we had to show our reports to see if is good enough to pass. It is also the day where we had to learn how to evaluate websites(I think this was in day 6. If not, then "pai seh lor". :P)
Day 7, Well day 7, is e-learning, which means stay at home and sleep. It also means we had to go online and discuss about the internet and Advocacy websites in a forum. Some of my classmates, have good comments...
Day 8, 1st class test, I didn't do too badly, at least I passed. :D
Well, that all for now til this point. I think now I have to add games to this blog. Sian...
